St Mary's Kingower Auction
With 6 centres in the Parish of Inglewood, and a sparse population still recovering from drought and flood it was necessary to take action. The insurance and maintenance of these 6 particularly beautiful historic churches renders the parish unviable. For many years the parish has only been able to afford a part time minister working a couple of days a week. So sadly St Mary's Kingower, which hasn't had regular services for many years, had to be auctioned. This was a great upset to the tiny community of Kingower because the church is their only community building.
However the auction (2nd June 2012) had the best of possible outcomes all round. The amount was $140K. It was purchased by Peter Walsh, the MP and descendent of the Rev Hall who founded the church in 1871. Peter Walsh intends to allow St Mary's to be use by the Kingower community.
There will be a final service for St Mary's Kingower on Sunday 29th July at 2pm, with Bishop Andrew followed by afternoon tea in the Rheola Hall.
